DC Enforcement Agency Updates their Unit with New DAP
CE5000 Series Computers
PLATTSBURG,
N.Y. November 22, 2004 – Managing parking
is one of D.C.'s more challenging responsibilities.
Thousands of commuters and tourists swell the ranks
of the city's driving population every day. Recently,
in a measure to enhance its level of enforcement services,
the District of Columbia increased the number of officers
within its parking enforcement unit. Together with EZTag,
a full service mobile computing and automated citation
system solutions provider, DC was able to equip these
new officers with the latest ruggedized handheld enforcement
computer, the DAP CE5000 series.
The District of Columbia’s decision to work together
with EZTag was based on previous experience. Throughout
the years EZTag have been continuously working with
law enforcement organizations throughout the U.S. to
deliver their secure, leading edge automated parking
enforcement solution (PES).
When developing or establishing specifications for an
automated citation system, there are numerous factors
an agency should consider. For example, it's important
for handheld devices to be comfortable and easy for
your enforcement agents to use. “This was their
main criteria and it had to be respected,” said
Dan Rossiter, senior account manager at EZTag Inc. “The
devices had to be ruggedized — they had to be
able to withstand the harshest outdoor environmental
and handling conditions.” The DAP CE5000 was such
a device. Fitted with the latest Intel XScale RISC processor
and TFT color display, the CE5000X range blends ergonomic
design and ruggedness. Outstanding reliability, high
battery performance and exceptional durability in even
the toughest environments make the CE5000X the best
hardware investment for D.C.’s. With an average
service life of 7 years, the CE5000X will deliver long
term service, a lower total cost of ownership and enable
business process change that will improve efficiency
and reduce costs.
From
handheld mobile computers to the wireless technology
to the security implications and accessories, there
are many critical-path decisions in the process of selecting
an automated citation system. EZTag’s PES, in
an effort to help it’s customers in the decision-making
process, has been developed on an open architecture.
“PES can be installed on any handheld, without
major modifications, stated Dan Rossiter, senior account
manager at EZTag Inc. This is not the case with several
citation issuance systems currently available on the
market; often requiring major retooling, consequently
causing delays at the customers’ expense.
More
and more, many government agencies and law enforcement
organizations take advantage of the knowledge, history
and experience of companies like EZTag Inc. when considering
the development and implementation of rugged mobile
computing enforcement solutions.
